MC DeSimone Bienkowski is the 2023-2024 Second Vice President and was the 2022-2023 Advocacy Chair-Elect for Maryland TESOL. She has over 14 years of experience working as a K-12 public school ESOL teacher and mentor and has been tenured in two districts in Maryland. She also has over five years of experience as a site coordinator and adult ESOL instructor for the Community College of Baltimore County. Currently, MC is a doctoral student at Notre Dame of Maryland University. She speaks some Spanish, Italian, and French. TESOL and success for MLLs, their families, and their teachers is a great passion of hers. She also enjoys traveling, learning languages, advocating for additive bilingualism/multilingualism, playing music, making friends across the globe, visiting museums, gardening, cooking from her garden, and chasing after her two dogs and cat (all rescues). |

Zahava Johnson is the current Chair-Elect for Maryland TESOL's Secondary Education Interest Section. She has earned a B.A. in Political Science from Hampton University, a M.S. in Education from Fordham University and a TESOL Certificate from the University of Maryland. She has spent over 20 years of her teaching experience in Prince George’s County, Md and has recently transitioned to William Wirt Middle School. She now serves as the English Language Development (ELD) Department Co-Chair and enjoys teaching AVID and ESL to middle school students from a variety of backgrounds. She has recently maintained her National Board Certification and continues to serve as a Professional Learning Facilitator mentoring National Board Certification candidates. | Carol Haddaway is an adjunct faculty at The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University where she teaches Critical Writing Intensive for undergraduate music students. She has over 20 years of experience teaching ESL in the US and overseas. Prior to Peabody, she served as a Senior English Language Fellow with the US Department of State in Myanmar, Belarus, Ukraine, and Syria where she conducted teacher training and taught ESL at Yangon university. She holds an MA degree in ISD/ESOL Bilingual from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and a MS degree in ABS from Johns Hopkins University. She enjoys learning new languages, traveling, gardening, keeping fit, and spending time with family. |
